Thought Seed is a private journal that learns how you write, then drafts tweets from your own sentences. It is built and run by Raghav Gandhi.

Why it exists

It was built for an audience of one, and then opened up. Everything that assumed I was the only user has since been taken out — the drafts used to come out in my voice and my habits no matter who was writing; now they learn from whoever is.

That is the whole idea, really: most tools that turn writing into posts write in their voice rather than yours. The drafts here are supposed to sound like the person who wrote the entry.

How it works

You write a dated entry. Nothing appears in the editor while you type — no suggestions, no prompts pretending to be a friend.

When you ask for tweets, the app reads up to six of your own recent entries to learn how you phrase things. Those are sent as a writing sample, and the model is told to take style from them and subject matter only from the entry you are on. You keep what sounds right and discard the rest.

If you have not written enough yet for it to have a sense of your voice, it writes plainly rather than guessing at a style for you. It does not tell you which of the two it did. The one thing it is given about you either way is what you said you were working on when you signed up, if you answered — as background on the subject, never as an example of how you write.

What it does with your writing

Journal entries are private by default. Seven features here use AI, and each one sends entry text to an outside AI service: drafting tweets from an entry, rewriting a draft, adjusting a draft to an instruction, naming an untitled entry, asking you a follow-up question about what you have just written, sorting an entry into a category, and writing up an answered entry as prose.

All seven run only when you press a button. Nothing about your writing is sent anywhere unless you ask for it.

There is no third-party analytics or tracking on this site. The privacy policy sets out what is sent, when, and what is stored.
